Team Sustainability

Sustainable development is a timely topic with high societal relevance and chemistry plays an essential part in it. JCFs "Team Sustainability" deals with the fundamental question: "What can we as young chemists do to create a more sustainable future and how can we inspire others to act?". The team has already discussed a lot of ideas and initiated projects for the cause and we are always looking for more creative ideas. We welcome new, motivated team members who want to take part in the realization of these ideas. Our current projects include a sustainability guideline, a survey to evaluate the adequacy of sustainability in education and a white paper that represents the opinions of young chemists on the matter in the context of the UN SDGs

In May 2021, Emiel Dobbelaar, as a representative of the JCF Sustainability Team, took part in an interactive discussion format of "SAICM" (Sustainable Approach to International Chemicals Management) in order to work out together with other representatives of the youth how youth engagement can be promoted in the context of chemistry and politics. Short presentations on specific questions were given in the format, subsequent questions were answered by the participants using online survey tools and discussed / commented on live. The discussion took place within the framework of the Communities of Practice (CoP) "Chemicals and the Sustainable Development Goals", the summarized results were put together in a digest document that can be viewed here: https://saicmknowledge.org/library/promoting-youth-engagement-different-stakeholders-chemicals-and-waste
