The International Younger Chemists Network (IYCN) was founded in 2017 and aims connect and empower younger chemists from all over the world. It supports younger scientists working across the chemical sciences towards a globally sustainable future and an inclusive scientific community. All interested early career chemists from all nations have the opportunity to join, network and participate. For further information, please visit the IYCN's website.
German delegates in the IYCN (2024/25)
Annabelle Brauel
Annabelle is a German delegate at the IYCN and actively involved in the Public Outreach Committee. She has been a member of the GDCh since 2022 and is active in the Regional Section of Frankfurt. As the chair of this Regional Section, she also organizes the yearly Frankfurt Job Fair for scientists.
Annabelle completed her bachelor's degree at Goethe University Frankfurt, where she is currently pursuing her master's degree. Her focus is on biophysical chemistry, where she uses single-molecule spectroscopic methods to study membrane receptors.
Kevin Keller
Kevin Keller is a PhD candidate at Justus Liebig University in Giessen. He earned his Master’s degree through a double-degree program in collaboration with Kansai University, Japan(関西大学). His research focuses on bioinspired model compounds of copper-containing enzymes. Since 2018 he is a member of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) and actively participates in its Young Chemists‘ Network (JCF). Additionally to his involvement in the organization of the 25th Spring Symposium 2023, he serves as a Board member of the Young Wöhler Association (GDCh). He represents Germany as a delegate in the IYCN since 2025.
JCF Member serves as IYCN chair (2022/23)
Dr. Torsten John
Torsten John is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his doctorate from Leipzig University, where he investigated peptides on nanoparticle and membrane surfaces. His current research focuses on the self-assembly of DNA nanomaterials. Torsten has been a member of the national board of the JCF (2014-2017), followed by being on the board of the European Young Chemists' Network (2017-2019), and the IYCN (since 2019). Currently, he is serving as the Chair of the IYCN.
